Snow White Pigeon

from This Brave Riot II by Copper Dalton

lyrics

I am a snow white pigeon
I ain't got no friends
I live in the back of the 7-11
For a fresh crust of bread
I can tell you a tale
About cigarette breaks and love affairs

All the other pigeons look down on me
So proud of their filth and their disease
But on the inside, I'm just like them
Except I was born with snow white skin

The alley cats, they just pass me by
While the old men wager at the bench nearby
Sometimes, I get scared in the middle of the night
I wish I had strong wings so that I could fly

See the snow white pigeon with the airplanes
Flying so high away from this place
I've seen the brochures from the sunshine state
Give me some time, I swear I'll make it someday

All the other pigeons just laugh at me
When I tell them of my plans
When I tell them of my dreams
I've met some garbage men with the cruelest minds
Their fears in my direction
I'm a target on their mind
"I'd like to see that bird when he's stuck in a cage
I'd like to see that bird up on my mantelpiece"

I am a snow white pigeon
I ain't got no home
No one will take the risk on being with one
It seems a snow white pigeon is only a threat
It seems it's hard to be a snow white anything

My papa said, "son," when I was only three
When he set me on my own
When he sat me on his knee
"You are a snow white pigeon
You should always be proud
There are not many of us left
There are not many of around"
But if the truth be told
I could use a change
I'm tired of walking around
In these snow white chains
